Trend watchers in the AEC industry and other disciplines are always uncovering shifts, sometimes very subtle, in the way designers approach the creation of a building, a house, an intersection, and so on. With BIM, there were significant changes in the approach to design, and these changes were often not so subtle.

The December 2015 issue of AUGIWorld features two articles that take differing points of view along this topic. Murray Clack looks at drawing in his AutoCAD-related article, “Is Drawing Composition Becoming a Lost Art?” Murray explores the impact on, among other things, hiring practices in design firms today.

In “The Importance of AutoCAD in the BIM World,” the company leaders interviewed for the article by author Dat Lien had somewhat different views, ranging from those who still rely on AutoCAD drawings as part of their BIM strategy and those who don’t.

As 2015 flows into 2016 and beyond, watch for continued changes in the way companies approach design.
