Surveys Article: Custom Software

While we have polled before on your favorite add-ons (https://www.augi.com/library/poll-3rd-party-applications), it became apparent from the replies that many of you were building your own tools in addition to purchasing them.

So, this time around, I thought it would be good to start with the question of who works with software that has been customized internally? 60% already do and a further 7% intend to do so in the future.

Curious why or how folks build their own solutions in-house? Stop by the programming and customization forums, and see why they’re one of the busiest places on AUGI.

Pay special attention to any threads ‘stuck’ to the top of each subforum, where the moderators and expert users give some good getting started resources and share tips and resources.

You can also find programming articles in the library and course handouts in the Autodesk University/Revit Technology Conference forums.

We had a total of 81 third party program suggestions by the folks who participated. The ones that came up most often were:

The next issue of AUGIWORLD magazine will focus on 3rd party software. Be sure to check it out and see what your favorite authors use and how.

If you’re tired of having to customize around features in your Autodesk software, be sure to pop over to the Wishlist and either submit a wish of your own or cast some votes on the good ideas your fellow members have come up with. (remember, you can only vote on a product’s features if you have marked yourself as a user of that product in your AUGI profile  so check that first).

Then, go in and rank some wishes!

This is a living list, and the Autodesk product teams have access to the rankings in real-time whenever they want them.

I am sure you will notice that there is no button to skip a wish you don’t have strong feelings about. The system makes sure that every wish will get seen and voted on, so, just go on and move that slider and Rank It!
