Please join all of AUGI in welcoming them.

Departing Member

Now that the elections are complete, we bid farewell to a long term board member. We wish him well and hope that he stays connected. Richard Binning has served for six years on the Board and served as president in 2006 and 2007. Richard was instrumental in many of the initiatives over the six years he served and made great strides in overseeing the web area.

He has served in some way in almost all of AUGI including International development, Local Chapter development, Education, BLAUGI, Governance, Autodesk University and CAD Camp development. We are glad that he served, worked, and became a friend to all the board members and many of you. He will be greatly missed.

Looking back at 2009

AUGI started a new publication – AUGI AEC Edge. Devoted to the AEC industry, this was a venture that we did in conjunction with Extension Media. We have two issues under our belts and are working toward the third. We hope to settle into a regular publishing schedule in 2010. Take a look at the latest issue at www.augiaecedge.com.

We launched a new Career Center and Job Board powered by JobTarget. It is a full-featured career development site. There are more than 1,000 open jobs at the time I am writing this and, for employers, there are over 200 resumes waiting to be reviewed.

Our Social Media use has expanded to Twitter. We have a few accounts… AUGI; AUGIatAU; BLAUGI; AUGIForums; and AUGICADCamp. Search them out and start following. We have a Facebook group and also a LinkedIn group. Take a look at all these groups and sites.

We did a Special Edition of AUGI HotNews focused on the AUGI Wish List in May. It was well received and we presented the November balloting results to Autodesk at AU 2009.

Web traffic was up 35 percent from 2008 with 11.3 million page views so far in 2009. Rummaging through the most recent Google Analytics on the site shows that we have had 1,479,107 unique visitors to our site in 2009 and the number continues to grow. About 300,000 of those returned to the site more than 100 times and two thirds of those have returned more than 200 times. Twenty-seven percent of our visitors return to the site again in the same day. Sixty percent are using Internet Explorer and 30 percent are using Firefox (like me). The rest are using Chrome, Opera, Safari, and others.

We have celebrated more than 26,000 new members so far in 2009 and we add 12 new Local Chapters bringing our total to 167 in all. We saw our international membership grow to over 80,000 outside the US with 10 established Country Chapters and four more in the works.

At Autodesk University we presented the four Wish Lists, held the Top DAUG competition, and met up with many old friends as we began the celebration of AUGI turning 20.

Looking forward to 2010

In 2010, AUGI will enter into its 20th year of serving our members. We look forward to refining the membership process; gathering more demographics via surveying our members. We may hold a membership drive to encourage you to ask others to join.

We are re-establishing AUGI CAD Camps with over 25 scheduled for US locations.

We are pressing ahead with an invigorated AUGI Training Program (ATP). Look for more classes being offered.

We are seeking funds to renew and update our web portal and community sites. With a long-overdue need to improve our website, we are adding small modifications as we move ahead. Have you looked at the home page lately? We have added features that highlight forum posts, BLAUGI posts, and more.

Want to help out? We always need more volunteers. Just email me at mark.kiker@augi.com.

Finally, as we enter our 20th year, we want to thank the tireless volunteers who work behind the scenes. It is only through their efforts that we can keep all of this going. AUGI is truly members serving members. Together, we make this happen!

Special thanks go out to the past presidents and board members who have provided leadership to AUGI from the first day it was started.
