Survey: Communities with a focus on Marine industries

Thank you to everyone who took a moment to participate in the most recent AUGI Survey. Most of the questions were directed at the potential users of a Marine Community, but, the first question was open to all AUGI Members.

What Communities would you like to see on AUGI.com?

There were some general suggestions, like any industry-specific community or any software-specific community, as well as a few users who did not see the benefit of the creation of any new Communities.

There were some other suggestions, though, such as Communities centering on the topics of Renewable Energy, Precast Concrete and Fabrication (MEP).

Personally, my favorite idea was - “A USFIRST/AUGI community would be nice. Autodesk sponsors USFIRST FRC (First Robotics Competition) with Inventor, 3DS Max, Maya, etc. It would be nice to have a FIRST Community here, where students and mentors could ask questions and share ideas.” I will pass those suggestions along and see what resources can be dedicated toward them.

Now, on to the marine questions!

Oh, also, if you are a Twitter user, feel free to look up the hashtag #AUGIMarine or the @AUGI handle for the chat held recently.

Autodesk Products Used in Marine Design

There is quite a variety of software used in shipbuilding and other marine design. It looks like vanilla AutoCAD is by far the most frequently found, though.

For which activities do you use Autodesk software?

3rd Party and other Applications Used

For such a niche industry, there are certainly many developers out there who cater to these users.

Collaboration – which file types do you use for data transfer?

DWG is in first place, but, there are many others in use.

Industry Activities?

Supply Chain – Products Used?

For those Marine members who responded, 82 of them are involved in the Supply Chain.

84% of them utilize AutoCAD, followed next by 52% using Inventor, 35% making use of Navisworks, 32% AutoCAD Mechanical and 24% Vault, there were others, but, they fell off pretty steeply in the teens and below.

In favor of a new Industry Community?

98% of Marine-focused members are in favor of a new community, with 2% opposed.

What’s up next?

Please feel encouraged to participate in the Cyon Research annual industry survey, which runs through July 15th, 2015. There is a link on our Current Survey page. http://www.augi.com/surveys/current-survey/current-survey/

Beginning in July, please also come back to that same link and participate in the AUGI Annual Survey, to sound off on industry, job satisfaction, job satisfaction, education and pay. As always, this is an independent and anonymous survey, which is in no way tied to your name, or user account, nor reported in anything except broad groupings. Running at the same time on the home page will be a poll inquiring about whether you participate in the annual survey.
