Welcome to the AUGI Revit Community!

Revit is Autodesk's premier Building Information Modeling solution, but did you know it was originally developed by a startup company called Charles River Software (founded 1997) - later renamed Revit Technologies? Autodesk succesfully acquired Revit Technologies on April 1, 2002. You can click here to brush up on the full history. If this is your first time here, be sure to become familiar with the Six Phases of a Revit User as made popular by Revit moderator and forum godfather, Chris Zoog. I hope you'll visit our other Revit community pages and forums, and encourage you to become a regular contributor of this outstanding Revit resource!

I would like to kick things off by thanking the former Revit Community Chair, James Vandezande, for his work and dedication to this user community. There are plenty of other volunteers to thank, and you all know who you are. A special thanks also goes to Steve Stafford, who is one of the most helpful members of these forums, even during his time as an AUGI Board Member and as Forum Moderator extraordinaire. Passion for Revit as strong as his is very hard to come by.

It is my pleasure to be here, entrusted to help the Revit community. I joined AUGI at the end of July 2005 when I started "poking around" with Revit 8.0. Most of you can relate to that statement and can easily recall the excitement you felt while learning what Revit could do. These forums were and continue to be an indispensable learning resource, guiding hundreds of users as they explore and learn all there is to know about the 3 flavors of Revit, which have come a long way in the past 3 to 4 years.

We are amidst very difficult financial times, and our industry will not be spared. Now is the time to seriously focus on training, to get better and more efficient in our work. Competition will get more fierce and you cannot stand waiting on the sidelines. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that you sharpen your skills and take BIM seriously. As we await the next release of Revit, I would like to draw your attention to a very interesting video that was suggested in a post by our Wish List forum manager, Wes Macaulay. It will bring a whole other appreciation for what goes into designing a user interface. Trying to please every single member of the user base is no easy task and hopefully, you'll grow a better understanding of the process that software developers go through in designing software.

Please recall the wise words of our former Chair: "Remember that AUGI is an organization of the people, for the people and by the people. It will cease to exist without the continued support of its community members." I couldn't agree more, and hope we can all stay positive in these difficult times and as always, constructive criticism is very welcome!
